Title: Senior Systems Engineer

SUMMARY:

San Francisco-based startup seeks highly motivated Senior Systems Engineer to help plan and drive the company towards growth, stability, security, and high availability. We are looking for someone who is a versatile big picture thinker who can also sit down and get the job done quickly. Competitive salary and options commensurate with experience. Report to CTO. Work closely with experienced entrepreneurs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Design and build out scalable and secure network infrastructure.
- Configure and ensure uptime of live web and database servers.
- Maintain relationships with multiple hosting and bandwidth providers.
- Establish and execute general maintenance and backup plans.
- Coordinate and execute periodic load testing and security audits.
- Create and integrate internal monitoring tools/reports.
- Work with software engineers to ensure well-designed, maintainable end product.
- Help with application release, upgrade, and rollback processes.
- Assist in application optimization and load balancing for performance.
- Install, patch, and maintain cluster of Linux servers.
- Help administer internal servers (e-mail, wiki, source repository, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS:

- BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years administering enterprise-grade systems infrastructure.
- Organized, good communicator, with strong hands-on technical skills.
- Team player who can self-task, schedule, prioritize, and clearly report on progress and issues.
- Apache server installation, configuration, maintenance.
- MySQL database administration (installation, backup, query/index analysis, replication).
- Server-side PHP application hosting and optimization.
- Linux system administration.
- Knowledge and experience using one or more scripting languages (Python, Perl, PHP, etc.).
- Object-oriented programming experience (including PHP 5) is a plus.
